After finishing her master's in education cum laude from the university of Leiden, Gwendolyn taught at the universities of applied science Haagse Hogeschool and Windesheim, where she was part of the developing team for a new Minor Chinese.

In 2013 she started at secondary school Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar teaching Chinese Language and Culture. Since then the subject of Chinese has developed from a low-key elective with two small classes to a popular subject in grades 2 - 6 with a final exam (since 2017), a Confucius Classroom, three exchanges so far with partnerschool Tongan Nr 1 in Xiamen, annual HSK exams and many cultural activities.

Gwendolyn is chairperson of Levende Talen Chinees and is a steering committee member of Nuffic Netwerk Chinees. She gives workshops at Leiden University, Onderwijsnetwerk Zuid-Holland, Levende Talen Studiedag, with subjects such as: The cultural domain of Chinese Language and Culture, Intercultural competence in the Chinese Language Classroom, Linguistics in the language lesson, Motivation, Vocabulary enrichment, Chinese Literature in the lesson.

She has been a guest speaker at the Minor International Business at NHL Stenden university of applied science since many years. In 2019 Gwendolyn and her project group received a grant (LOF) from the Ministry of Education for the development of teaching material for the cultural domain of Chinese Language and Culture, to be used for the national final exam Chinese.

In July 2019 Gwendolyn was part of a group of educational experts who gave workshops to 80 Chinese highschool, primary school and kindergarten principals at Putuo, Shanghai. She gave interactive workshops on 'How to become an Excellent School', '21st Century skills for students' and 'Interactive teaching'.
