After many years of coming close — collecting a handful of second and third places— our team 薯条机场 finally won the Dutch National China Quiz – De Grote China Kennis Quiz! The tenth edition of this prestigious quiz took place in a pub in Rotterdam, while arctic weather conditions raged outside. Under the leadership of quizmasters Ed Sander and Fred Sengers the tension rose and participants – an impressive group of China experts from various fields such as government circles, universities, journalism, China business – competed with each other answering around 50 questions, in five rounds. Question topics ranged from Black Myth to Wu Zetian, from the Ouwehands Dierenpark panda’s to Tik Tok refugees.
Our team, aptly described by Michiel as:
👉 Modest Danny – Making sense of our joint thoughts and secretly solving all of our knowledge gaps.
👉 Gwendolyn (aka Garrie) – Rocking history and geography like she has been everywhere and always.
👉 Thijs – Master of the digital universe.
👉 Joker Yifan – Like having multiple hints and a lifeline for every question. Some might call it cheating.
Michiel himself – e-commerce expert with an immense knowledge about today’s China- probably caused our winning edge by answering an impossible question on Alibaba, worth 6 points !
The cup is ours! For a year, or longer ?!
